HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

This was supposed to be the beginning of a bouquet of flowers for a mother’s day post. (I’m trying to practice wet on wet watercolor. It’s not going well.)

So I wet the paper and dropped in some purple, watched it bloom, and started to get excited about what was happening.

THEN I saw it.

The ballet dancing pig in a purple tutu!

No matter how I looked at it trying to turn it into a bouquet all I saw was a purple pig!

Darn you Carla Sonheim! I’ll never be the same again! LOL (I mean that in a good way, of course!)

(I also think she's wearing a Davy Crocket hat, but I could be wrong!)

Husband’s Birthday

60…..that difficult ‘in between’ age where you no longer look young, but not quite old enough to look wise.

Happy Birthday, hon!

Cinco de Mayo Sucks

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the Mexican holiday itself. It’s just that’s the day my mother died.

I could go blissfully along not remembering and maybe even have the day slip by unnoticed, except that the beer companies insist on reminding me.

Constantly.

For weeks ahead of time.

Now, I remember the date my father died but it’s not a national holiday, so it passes me by without any major effects.

But Cinco de Mayo, not so much.

I’m going to have to remember to bring this point up when I see my mother again, ‘You know, Mom, you could have picked a better day!”

I miss my mom.

‘Can’t Resist This’

‘Can’t resist this’ is this month’s theme at the Sketchbook Challenge.

Of course FOOD instantly came to mind!

This ought to be an easy month for me. Just go to the grocery store, start in the candy aisle and work my way through the whole store!

That would be cheating (in more than one way, lol.)

So I guess I’m off to explore the different methods of resist.

(I didn't have any rubber cement, so I used Elmer's white glue. I knew I wouldn't be able to rub it off, but I thought it would resist the paint and it would at least be white!)

Cat in My Lap

The cat has been so needy lately. She always wants to be attached to me in some way.
So I figured I’d use it to my advantage and do some sketching.

She apparently didn’t agree with this plan, as you can see from her expression! (I wasn’t paying her the attention she feels she so well deserves. I wasn’t petting her!)

pet me, damn it!

Super powers

First born says my hot flashes are a prelude to my developing super powers!
Oh wow! How exciting! I’m going to have super powers!

I asked him what kind of super powers and he said ‘fire breathing.’

What kind of super power is that?

What can you do with fire breathing? I see no point in being able to breathe fire at something (or someone.) Okay, maybe it would come in handy in an argument, but other than that it’s kind of limited.

Then he suggested that it would make a good sideshow act.

So, if you’re ever in my part of the world, look me up and I’ll do my sideshow fire breathing act for you!

Ah, kids! All that work and this is what I get! LOL

(Actually, I LOVE conversations like this!)

Hortense

I was fourteen and I had a HUGE crush on a high school boy. His name was Neil. He used to come to the Jr. High dances every Friday.

I think he liked me too.

One Sunday morning as my family and I sat in a booth at Reade’s drug store having breakfast Neil walked in.

Before I knew what I was doing I shot up from my seat and SQUEALED “Neil!”

EVERYONE in the ENTIRE store turned around to see why I had shrieked.

I was mortified!

Of course having my older brother make a big deal of it didn’t help either! I just wanted to melt into the plastic booth and die!

Moments later, a woman (who we didn't know) walked through the front door.

My father jumped to his feet and YELLED, “Hortense!”

The entire store started to laugh and everyone went back to what they were doing.

At the timeI thought he did it to tease me.
It wasn’t until I grew up that I finally realized what my father had done and why.

I didn’t know to say it then but,

Thanks, Dad.

She Never Shuts Up!

In third grade a new boy moved into the neighborhood. He was from Greece and didn’t speak a word of English. The teacher said, “Put him next to Robin. He’ll learn English faster that way, she never shuts up!”

I was both proud and insulted at the same time!

Having a Play Date With Myself

This little guy has a motion detector in it. When you walk by it starts to laugh hysterically and rolls back and forth until it sounds like it has exhausted itself. You can't help but laugh along with it. Sometimes the cat sets it off. She is not amused, but we laugh like hell!
