Thoughts on a Thursday
If there were a thousand seagulls in an airplane while
its flying, each weighing two pounds apiece, but they were all flying in the
airplane, would the airplane weigh 2000 pounds more?

Happy Birthday, Son1…….
You can’t possibly be that old!!!!
Son1 and I were having a lovely conversation a few weeks ago
and he happened to mention his upcoming birthday. Now, I know when his birthday
is….I was THERE for Pete’s sake…..but I sometimes forget exactly how old
the boys are, unless I do the math in my head and we ALL know how good I am at
math……
He mentioned that he was beginning to feel ‘older’ now that
he’s in his thirties…..and I paused……
Wait, WHAT???
You can’t possibly be in your thirties…..I’M
IN MY THIRTIES!!!! At least that’s how I feel! (Well, if you don’t
count the days I feel like I’m ninety-nine…..but I digress….)
How could this possibly have happened?
I remember my mother telling me I was catching up to her,
age wise, and at the time I laughed but I didn’t really quite understand what
she was saying. NOW I get it!
So, to my first born, with all my love, I say…..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
you’re catching up to me….NEENER NEENER!!!

Dreams and Memories
I dreamed about my mother again last night. It’s the second
time this week. I dreamed about her not as the plump, gray haired grandma she
was in the last years of her life, but as a young woman I don’t think I ever
knew.
She was wearing denim pedal pushers and a gleaming white, sleeveless,
button down blouse with a Peter Pan collar. She was walking away from me, not
even aware that I was there or watching her. And it struck me that I had never
seen my mother in jeans before!
A funny thing to think.
I wasn’t surprised at her age or appearance, just the fact
that I never knew either of my parents to wear jeans.
I remember my mother bought my father a pair of Levi’s
sometime in the sixties. She thought they would replace the worn out army
khakis he used to wear whenever he was doing something messy around the house,
like wallpapering.
They sat neatly folded in his bureau drawer. When I was
emptying their house after she died, there they were, still neatly folded with
the tags on.
It had been ten years since he died and all his other
clothes had long since been given away.
I often wonder why she kept them.
File this under: I
have nothing to say and I say it regularly.

STAGES OF AN ONLINE CLASS
I started a new class this week, Sketchbook Skool’s The Whimsical Sketchbook. I’m not sure why I signed up for this class, except I thought
I needed a kick in the pants to get me back into the ‘groove’.
So far I haven’t put pen/brush to paper but I did write
this:
STAGES OF AN ONLINE
CLASS
Read description of class
Think about whether or not to take class
Get excited about upcoming class
Sign up and pay for class
Anxiously wait for class to begin
On first day of class, wonder what you were thinking when
signing up for class
Watch video/s
Re-watch video/s
Digest video/s
Think about video/s
Worry about not being as good as the instructor
Watch homework assignment video
Freak out about homework assignment video
Spend copious amount of time thinking about the PERFECT topic/theme
for homework assignment
Sit down to start homework assignment
Become paralyzed about homework assignment
Walk away from blank paper on desk in defeat of homework
assignment
Get scathingly brilliant idea in shower
Sit down and write STAGES
OF AN ONLINE CLASS
It's not exactly what I was expecting but at least I got SOMETHING out of the first week......lol.

Is It Just Me???
Our local news station has implemented a new segment to
their nightly news show. It called
‘Storm Chasers’…..or something like that. They send out a reporter and driver
to report on the weather ‘as it’s happening’…..from inside the truck, you know,
just to be safe!
I have issues with this. First, wouldn’t they be safer
reporting from inside the TV station? Secondly…..it’s RAINING people! It’s what
happens in the summertime in a subtropical climate!!!!
Have we all become such children that we need someone to
tell us to come in out of the rain???? To tell us lightning is dangerous? That
rain may cause flooding? That you shouldn’t drive into/through standing water
if you don’t know how deep it may be?
And it’s not JUST the weather.
I feel like they are hyping the ‘news’ more and more lately.
Pretty soon it’s going to be called The Nightly News with Chicken Little
reporting!
There is such a thing a personal responsibility. It’s not
the job of the government, or local authorities, or even the newscasters to
tell me I need to come in out of the rain to be safe. If I haven’t learned some
basic lessons by now it’s my problem, not theirs.
Is it just me? Is it the local station here? Are they doing
this everywhere now?
Or have I become that cranky old man yelling “GET OFF MY
LAWN!”
