When I was in kindergarten finger painting was my favorite activity. I just loved it! What could be better than getting your hands INTO the paints as well as making a masterpiece!
One day the teacher sent a note home to my parents suggesting that they take me to a psychiatrist because all of my paintings were dark and brooding. Perhaps I was fostering some deep buried hostility or depression that needed looking into.
My mother (being the brilliant parent that she was) instead of running to make an appointment with a shrink, asked me “why do you always use such dark colors when you finger paint?”
I responded…..”Because by the time I get to the paints, all the good colors are taken.”
Did I mention my mother was brilliant? She not only saved all that money on a psychiatrist, she also saved me from years of therapy! Thanks, Mom!

Love it! This would make a terrific journal cover or background. I had the grandkids do this once and I cut up their pieces to use as backgrounds for notecards.
ReplyDeleteRemember those school papers with purple ink? My daughter was given, in first grade, a print of a sheep in purple outline form on white paper and was told to color it. She did. In a rainbow of colors and came home to tell me the teacher said sheep are white not rainbow colors so she did it wrong. Remember this was on white paper - what was the teacher thinking? So I took it and told her how goofy the teacher was and posted it on the refrigerator as a work of ART.
Oh, I have other stories about teachers and art but that's enough for today.
The colors in THIS fingerpainting are super!
I've so enjoyed your drawings, painting and comments in Jane's class, that I thought I would check out your blog. I like your sense of humor and posts, and of course your art. Thought I'd say Hi and follow you around for awhile; tried to email you on the link, but my computer not set up for it...
