Creative Slump

Sometimes I fall into a creative slump.
I just can’t seem to get excited about anything.
Be it sketching, sewing, or anything creative.
I can’t even bring myself to walk into my studio!
I’m not blocked in the usual sense; I just can’t work up a good enthusiasm about anything.
Do you ever fall into a funk?
What special tricks or magic do you use to pull yourself out?

  1. Yes! I made it a practice...not a rule...to go into my play room EVERY day for five minutes and if nothing else...straighten up from the last time or choose ephemera for the next project. I have ALWAYS gone WAY over my 5 minute mark because once I get my hands in it...I can't help but play. I also look at EVERYthing I do as play...practice...fun...play!!! I also love and constantly remember the saying...
The Muse Comes To The Moving Brush.
Anyway...enjoy WHATEVER you do today and don't let the slump get you down. Revel in it.
Ok that's about it from me.

  2. I get that feeling too, the lethargy sets in....so I usually end up buying some new pens, or pencils or sketchbook, that works!

  3. Yep...count me in on the 'funk' thing...it usually comes whe I'm tired and time deprived. I usually take time out, read books or do a class...it always helps.
Another good remedy is a glass of wine. xx

  4. Sounds all too familiar. I just "go with it," and try and wait it out. I think our creative psyches are working even when we think we aren't. Watch some funny videos. Troll the internet. Be kind to yourself. :)

  5. Yup, utterly familiar with those. I second the glass of wine. Or go with a SECOND glass of wine ;) & be kind to yourself - very kind. Beating up on it or yourself SO doesn't help!
