We have lived in this house for some time now. And there are things we would like to do to improve it and make it more our own.
But finances and the economy being what they are……
So we look for little inexpensive things we can do.
Like getting rid of the plant shelf that visually separates the foyer/hallway from the living room.
So begins the domino effect.
The plant shelf is mostly a dust collector anyway.
We don’t display anything up there because it IS such a dust collector and just too much of a pain to clean.
So we thought it would be a relatively easy thing to take it down.
Except then….
The floor tiles would need replacing because we don’t have any more of the original tile or grout to patch where the columns are.
The tile runs from the laundry room through the foyer and hallway and into the kitchen. And under the kitchen cabinets, as it should.
This would mean removing the cabinets to do it properly.
And since we’re taking out the cabinets anyway why not replace them?
They are the original builder’s cabinets. We could upgrade them.
This would mean replacing the lovely PINK countertops. (No kidding, they’re PINK!)
Then of course, if we’re doing all of this work, why not reconfigure the layout to make it more to our liking. Better lighting, new hardware, new appliances, replace the rather unfortunate wallpaper………..
Isn’t that the loveliest plant shelf you’ve ever seen? I wonder what should we display up there? LOL
It's amazing how our opinions and perceptions change when we work things through. lol xx
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely keep the shelf!
ReplyDeleteI think that plant shelf deserves a nice large (hand-painted perhaps) domino set! It'd be a nice reminder to think twice, three times and maybe four before starting that "little" project, lol!
ReplyDeleteAh, the domino projects. If the shelf is high enough, people won't see the dust. (-;
